INVITATION

INVITATION

Dear Colleagues and Friends,
With great pleasure we invite you back to beautiful Amsterdam, where the first West European dialysis meeting was held in 1964. We invite you to join us in May 2014 for the 51st meeting of our Society. This meeting will also include the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the ERA-EDTA Registry.
The meeting will be held at the RAI congress center, located near Amsterdam’s historical center, with many hotels in its close proximity. The RAI congress center is easily accessible by public transportation.
The scientific committee, consisting of leading scientists and clinicians from across Europe, chaired by David Wheeler from London, intends to further improve the already high quality of the Society’s recent congresses. The programme will focus on emerging topics which we anticipate to be of broad interest to delegates. All major areas of Nephrology including physiology, clinical nephrology, dialysis and transplantation will be covered as much as possible from a translational perspective. The way that such research is stimulated by the Dutch Kidney Foundation will be highlighted in four symposia. In addition a special session will be devoted to epidemiology and registries, with specific emphasis on the ERA-EDTA Registry. Special interest will be given to new developments in dialysis with emphasis on the wearable kidney and regenerative medicine. On the day preceding the main meeting, CME sessions will be included in the programme, partially organized by the different ERA-EDTA working groups.
The picture of a watermill in the sunlight, an early painting of the famous Dutch painter Pieter Mondriaan, was chosen as the symbol for our congress because watermills are a well-recognized symbol for the Netherlands and were instrumental in regaining land from the sea to shape the Netherlands to its current form. The vibrant joyful colors of the watermill are an appealing invitation for young and old to come to Amsterdam. Amsterdam has many historic and cultural venues like the beautiful 17th and 18th century merchant houses along the canals, several world famous museums like the recently renovated ‘Rijksmuseum’ and ‘the Van Gogh’ museum, and the ‘Concertgebouw’, residence of one of the world’s top ranked orchestras the ‘Royal Concertgebouw orchestra’. Altogether, with the prospect of an excellent scientific programme, we encourage you to come to Amsterdam.
We are looking forward to welcoming you in Amsterdam in May 2014.
